Telco
Telco : TE8 Tellurium Copper

Application – Telco is a machinable copper for EDM. As an electrode material, Telco performs the same as HDHC copper. This is because of its low Tellurium content (0.4%-0.7%). Telco offers the distinct advantage that it is 90% machinable (free cutting brass = 100%) when compared to HDHC copper (20%). Telco electrodes can be machined much faster and easier than copper.

Telco has become an inexpensive replacement for both Graphite and HDHC Copper. Although Telco does not produce the favourable cutting rate that graphite does, Telco offers the following advantages:

Telco has a very high resistance against DC arcing and is recommended for applications where limited flushing is available.

  • Telco will reduce your chances of DC arc when used on the same setting as HDHC copper.
  • Telco Electrodes are considerably faster to wire EDM than graphite or tungsten.
  • Telco Electrodes produce favourable wear ratios (less than 1% on no wear settings into steel).
  • Telco Electrodes burn smooth and clean even with limited flush.
  • Due to its high resistance against DC arcing, Telco is an excellent choice for inexperienced operators.
  • Telco Electrodes create no nuisance dust as with machining graphite or indeed burrs as with HDHC copper.

Telco is recommended as a machinable alternative to pure copper and is highly recommended for use on newer power supplies and imported EDM machines designed to work best with copper.
